Disclaimer: I was invited by PizzaRev to attend the grand opening of their new restaurant located in Coral Gables, FL to try their pizza. All my opinions are my own.
When it comes to pizza there are so many different topping combinations you can choose from that makes the number of pizza creations you can make endless. With so many ways to make a pizza, many pizzerias limit you to choosing from a list of their creations. That’s great if you don’t mind eating any one of their creations but what if you are looking to try something new that is not on the menu? What if you have dietary restrictions and can’t eat certain ingredients like cheese, meat, or gluten? What if you want to invent your own pizza but don’t have the cooking skills to do so?
Crafting your own pizza is the concept of PizzaRev, a new pizzeria that just opened on Miracle Miles in the heart of Coral Gables, FL. PizzaRev lets you become a pizza innovator by giving you the power to create your own pizza just the way you want it. You pick the dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings and their pizza crafters create it right in front of you.
When I received the invitation to their grand opening, I wasn’t sure if I should go at first because there are many pizzerias that don’t offer vegan options only vegetarian ones because of the cheese they use. I try to stick with eating pizza made with vegan cheese because if I eat cheese that comes from cows milk, I develop dry itchy skin patches on my arms and legs. In order not to have to deal with an annoying itchy rash I just avoid dairy.
I researched the menu before making my final decision to go or not. Luckily, I discovered that PizzaRev’s menu not only offers vegan cheese as an option but vegan sausage as well! I would have been fine with just making my own veggie pizza using the vegan cheese, but if you offer me more vegan options like vegan sausage you bet I’m going to want to try it! After seeing all of the topping options on the menu, I was sold on attending and couldn’t wait for the grand opening to get here.
My mom accompanied me to the grand opening event and we were greeted by the staff with smiles and excitement as we walked inside. They provided us with menus and guided us to the ordering area where we could begin making our creations.
You have the option to craft your own pizza or salad or choose from a selection of their own pizza creations and signature salads. My mom chose their signature balsamic beet salad while I chose to craft my own 11” personal pizza. The pizza is prepared in front of you along an assembly line.
Here’s how the craft your own order process goes.
Choose Your Crust
There are three types of crusts to choose from: signature thin, double dough, and gluten-free. All of their pizza doughs are vegan. I chose the double dough as the base for my pizza. It’s a little thicker than the signature thin crust but it’s not as thick as a deep dish crust as I was imagining it to be based on the name. The signature thin looked too thin for my liking and I thought it might not support the weight of the toppings that I was thinking of putting on it.
What I found interesting was how the pizza dough was shaped into the 11” crust. It wasn’t done by hand but with this special machine that flattened and shaped the dough into the 11” crust in only 8 seconds.

Choose Your Sauce
For the sauces, there are 5 to choose from: organic tomato, spicy organic tomato, alfredo, sweet and bold BBQ, and olive oil. I went with the BBQ sauce because its savory and different from the traditional tomato based sauces, plus it would work well with the toppings I was going to add. All of the sauces except for the alfredo sauce are vegan.
Choose Your Cheese
I had the Daiya vegan cheese sprinkled over my pizza but the other available cheese options you can add to your pizza are: mozzarella, low-fat mozzarella, feta, bleu, and ricotta cheese.
Choose Your Toppings
Out of the 11 protein options and 17 veggie options I had to choose from I topped my pizza off with vegan sausage, red onions, sundried tomatoes, and spinach.
My pizza was placed into a fire oven, cooked for several minutes, then cut into 6 slices and brought to us at our table nice and hot.
The pizza was tasty and very filling. The combination of sundried tomatoes, red onions, and spinach were a nice touch to the vegan sausage that tasted and looked like regular sausage. You could be easily fooled into thinking the vegan sausage was regular sausage. Two people could easily share one pizza and be satisfied. My mom enjoyed her salad as well as a slice of my pizza. I also tasted some of the beets from her salad.
PizzaRev also serves beer and wine as part of their beverage lineup. I’m not a beer or wine drinker so I didn’t have any but my mom had a glass of the pinot grigio and she loved it.
Just when my mom and I thought we were done eating for the evening, the PizzaRev staff began to bring out trays of freshly baked chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies for the guests to taste. The cookies are just one of two dessert options they offer on the menu. The other is an Oreo dessert pizza made with a sweet crust, topped with Oreo cookie crumbles with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. This dessert looked scrumptious but unfortunately, it isn’t vegan.
Needless to say, both my mom and I had a great time at the opening and enjoyed the food and the friendly staff. If you would like to create your own unique pizza that’s served with organic ingredients then this is the pizzeria you need to go to. The price of the pizza is reasonable for the size of the pizza you get and the organic ingredients that are used. We will definitely return to PizzaRev in the near future to whip up a new pizza creation.
